how do you take professional quality photographs, like dirk mai..?
my birthday is coming up soon, and photography has been something i’ve always been interested in. but i really don’t feel it with my digital camera. i know many aspects go into photography such as lighting, zoom, focus, etc. but i have really tried to play around with my digital camera, but it dosent get any easier. does anyone know how to get a photo like this one:

is it the camera? does anyone have any reccomendations for an AFFORDABLE professional camera? or any reccomendations as to when the best time to photograph is. thanks. =)
The photo in your link looks like a “high key” (lots of white/blown out areas) taken in natural light. Actually not hard to do once you learn some basics and get some practice. I shot for a few years with my Nikon D50 and turned out some nice photos. I actually still use it occasionaly even though Ive upgraded. Its a great camera that you can pick up used with a kit lens for about $250. If you’re looking to go cheaper Im not sure what your options are. Any Canon or Nikon DSLR would be a good starting point. To get creative (like in your link) you want to learn to use the camera outside of the auto exposure settings. The camera will still auto focus for you but you take creative control of the settings. A great book that explains this pretty well is “Understanding Exposure”. A used copy usually goes for about $15.
Have some patience. It takes a little time to get consistent good photos. It can be frustrating at times but stick with it. Happy Shooting.
